Ok ok Im a WW2 buff big time. Like that looney Harley Earl who hosts Mail Call on the History Channel. But let me tell you if you like flight sims and history (such as WW2) you will abosolutely love this game. I hadnt played it until just recently but it eeks out its closest rival Aces Of The Pacific. I strongly recommend that you search for and download the 4meg update file which adds 6 new planes and several hundred missions!
This was one of the first games of its kind to use the 'padlock view' which simulates the pilots head 'looking' at his target. Its very useful in a dogfight when your engaged with several planes. Nice innovations and animations such as the internal cockpit machine guns of the Zero rocking back and forth as they fire and the ablity to assume the role of a rear-gunner and strafe planes as they line up behind your torpedo bomber.
The cockpit layouts are astounding and give you a real feel of the plane you are in. Flight models are very well done (for the time). Youll experience the sluggishness of a U.S\Japanese Torpedo bomber, the herky-jerk-rollover style of the P-51 mustang and nimbleness of an AM2 Zero. This game has tons of planes to fly. I havent counted them all yet but it covers all the bases and outnumber those in AOP.
The interface is quick, informantive and easy. You can enlist in the campaign, fly a single mission or try a nifty carrier battle mission where you oversee a historic battle as a carrier commander. All options are easy to understand and streamline you into the mission in a moments time.
The sound is the only minor dissapointment. However it does serve its purpose. You do get the sensation of power from the massive 1500hp engines of the P-38 when you put them at full power. The machine guns are probably its weakest point. They have a very weak, faint sound but I imagine this is a windows conflict and not a programming error. I could not even hear them with digital sound turned on.
Ending on a positive note this game is MUST HAVE for those of you who loved the Aces series by Dynamix. This game was better but went overlooked. Go get it!!

Un simulador de la desaparecida MICROPROSE que es para mí uno de los mejores de la historia, realmente hacen desear tener un casco virtual para poder disfrutar a pleno de todo el despliegue gráfico que posee, aún siendo del año 1994 y no poseer gráficos en 3d reales, no tiene nada que envidiarle a los modernos simuladores cargados de efectos especiales pero nada de originalidad.
Puedes elegir en el medio de la misión pilotar el aparato o pasarte al puesto de artillero y derribar aviones enemigos con tu ametralladora, o torpedear a los barcos objetivo sin piedad. A pesar de ser un simulador de aviones de la guerra del pacífico en donde te imaginarás que siempre pilotarás aviones estadounidenses, tienes la elección de pasarte al bando japonés y pilotar los clásicos como el Zero. Realmente un juego inigualable.
Nota: si quieres jugarlo correctamente ten en cuenta que necesitas un joystick y DOS puro, no corre en una ventana bajo Win, debes reiniciar el ordenador con un diskette de arranque y configurar los archivos config.sys y autoexec.bat para poder utilizar el mouse y la tarjeta de sonido.

1942 the Pacific air war a tuttoggi può considerarsi uno dei più riusciti simulatori di volo sulla guerra nel Pacifico.
La grafica e l'audio, molto buoni per il tempo in cui uscì il gioco, risultano ancora dignitosi; sono inoltre già supportati molti dei dispositivi hardware moderni: joystick a 4 tasti, manetta, pedaliera per il controllo del timone, coolie hat ecc.
Il gioco offre tutte le opzioni tipiche dei simulatori di volo:
- missioni singole
- editor di missioni
- modalità campagna
- registratore che consente di rivedere e salvare i video delle azioni compiute
- modalità 'carrier battle' prettamente strategica, in cui è il giocatore a pianificare le azioni scegliendo gli obiettivi e le squadre aeree e navali da impiegare potendo poi comunque partecipare all' azione in prima persona.
L' interfaccia di gioco è semplice e intuitiva: il giocatore può scegliere di pilotare non solo i caccia (Wildcat, Hellcat e Corsair americani o il giapponese A6M Zero) ma anche bombardieri (Ahichi Val, Dauntless o Helldiver)ed aerosiluranti (Kate, Devastator ed Avenger).Negli aerei pluriposto è anche possibile passare alla postazione del mitragliere di coda.
i modelli di volo sono abbastanza realistici (sui bombardieri è presente anche il traguardo di puntamento), ma è comunque possibile variare molti parametri per regolare realismo e difficoltà in base alla propria esperienza.
Le modalità 'carrier battle' e campagna sono quelle più impegnative ed interessanti:
aLL'inizio si sceglie da quale parte si intende giocare e che tipo di aereo utilizzare: caccia , bombardiere o aerosilurante e si devono portare a termine le missioni via via generate dal computer. Man mano che si acquisisce esperienza e si raggiungono gli obiettivi proposti si cresce di punteggio e di grado.
non è però possibile fare un back up della carriera in corso, per cui se si viene abbattuti occorre ricominciare daccapo la campagna; esiste però un semplice trucco che permette di evitare questa seccatura.
la parte meno riuscita del gioco è il registratore di missioni che funziona solo attraverso comandi da tastiera, quando anche in giochi molto più vecchi come Red Baron e Cuck Yeager air combat presentavano già un' interfaccia tipo videoregistratore comandabile da mouse molto più comoda ed intuitiva.

- registratore delle missioni da migliorare.

Die Grafik bei 1942 Pacific Air War (Weiters 1942 PAW) ist für die damaligen Verhältnisse sehr schön gelungen, das Schießen sieht realistischer aus als sogar bei heutigen Flugsimulatoren, man hatte bereits Einschusslöcher in der Maschine gesehen und die Umgebung war auch nicht schlecht...

Musik und Sound sind bei 1942 PAW ebenfalls gut gelungen, vor allem da man bereits das Gesprochene auch hört und nicht nur lesen muss, somit kann man sich schön auf seinen Kurs konzentrieren.
Die Musik im Game ist zwar nicht so überragend, und ist eher eintönig aber das ist Geschmacksache...

Multiplayer gibt es in 1942 PAW bereits, leider nur per Null-Modem Kabel (also Serielle Verbindung) für 2 Spielergames, aber man hat dabei ebenso seinen Spass wenn man zu zweit im Zimmer sitzt und fliegt...

Das Gameplay ist recht gut gelungen, die Steuerung ist nicht zu einfach, aber auch nicht zu schwer, ich denke mal das dieses Game wirklich auch Anfänger spielen können auf der richtigen Schwierigkeitsstufe.
Ich muss allerdings sagen das der Realismus der Bordschützen realstischer ist als bei heutigen Simulatoren wie z.B: il-2 Forgotten Battles.

1942 Pacific Air War ist alles in einem ein gut gelungenes Spiel, mit Realismus, guter Grafik und gelungenem Sound und einer wirklich schönen Atmosphäre über dem Pazifik :))...

Das Spiel ist für jeden Fan von WW2-Games ein Muss.

Un simulador de aviones de la US NAVY durante la segunda guerra mundial. Combina simulación y un poco de estrategia. Con gráficos soberbios para su época, sonido digital y una dificultad bastante tentadora. Es un buen juego, las campañas son estáticas pero se pone interesante cuando, después de ganar el juego en modalidad de 'carrera', se juega controlando la flota y los aviones al mismo tiempo, eligiendo uno mismo las misiones, los escuadrones que las realizaran y los aviones que compondrán ese escuadrón (aunque la computadora asigna los nombres de escuadrón automáticamente). Las combinaciones de carga de las armas son predeterminadas, pero hay dos o tres para cada tipo de avión.
