Igor: Objective Uikokahonia Reviews

Igor, an almost college drop out, who's set his sights on the prettiest girl on the whole campas. You need to help him get on a field trip with her, to Uikokahonia Island, for some tree-hugging botany assignment...

Yea, lame plot, I agree. But the game does manage to make it seem more interesting than it sounds. It has you wanting Igor to succeed. It even has you disliking Igor's nemesis. That nemesis being some toffee-nosed, athletically superior, pretty-boy armed with a dashing smile and wall-to-wall smugness. Think typical teen-movie jock.

The puzzles are well thought out, and may have you stumped for a while, but there not the hardest available. That is, except for the maze. The solution is in plain view, but the problem comes with the scale of it. One wrong move and you're back-tracking all over the place just to find to beginning again. This isn't a problem if you can be bothered to whip out a pen and paper and quickly jot down a few rooms.

The graphics... ahh... hmm... Igor for some god only knows reason reminded me of Indiana Jones. Indy, if he went to an expensive school and was kind of dorky. It's kinda pathetic, I know, but this is why I like this game. The backgrounds are well-drawn, too. Hand-painted, then scanned in, if I'm not mistaken, much like Monkey Island II, only less cartoony.

The sound is ok, I've heard much worse (I've made much worse)... But, nothing sticks in memory. You know how some games, you hear the music a while later and you know exactly where it's from? Well, this isn't one of them. To it's credit, tho, at no point do you think 'Ooh... that's not really the right kind of soundtrack to play there...' and if you did, people would probably point at you and laugh for starting a sentence with 'Ooh...'.

Overall, I'd recommend this game to anyone who's ever been the wierd kid in the corner who was laughed at by a guy called 'Brad'... or 'Brett'... or 'Ted'... or some other lame-wad quarterback's moniker. Revenge is sweet... kinda.

Also, if you like adventures in general, then try this. It has a LucasArts feel to it, but unfortunately not the length. This is the only disappointing feature to it. At first I thought it was a freeware title, as I completed it in a few hours. If you've not tried an adventure before, then this is a pretty good title to begin with. It's quick, not too difficult and more importantly, it's fun.

(Shock. Horror. It get's the 'Iqu seal of approval'. The first, no less).
