For those of us who are old enough to remember the heady days of the Amiga 500 (commodore) in the mid to late eighties, will probably recall whiling away vast numbers of late nights (and early mornings) 'bashing & building' our way through Lemming-land levels.

[A quick game preview/summary].

Platform game: You need to guide/protect small creatures called lemmings through different platform levels - from a 'drop off point' to the 'final exit point' within a set time-frame and ensuring the survival of a specified minimum number/percentage to be able to progress to the next level.

There are approximately 120 levels grouped under 4 'super-levels' called Fun, Tricky, Taxing, & Mayhem. The initial levels are very simplistic and are designed to provide the player with time to practice using the various skills that can be given to the lemmings to assist in their journey. The skills or tools you can allocate include options to make the chosen lemming:
• digging either straight downwards or at a downward slope
• climbing vertical objects
• bashing their way through objects straight in front of them
• floating downwards when faced with a substantial drop (using an umbrella Mary Poppins style)
• acting as a blocker - stopping other lemmings from moving past you
• ability to build gradual upward sloping brick paths that defy gravity (and logic)
• to bombers that explode 5 seconds after you select them...

The intermediate and higher levels become progressively tougher and there will no doubt be times when a level will appear both impassable & impossible... However, with enough time & practice...and more time & practice... they can be solved.

Psygnosis' release of Lemmings for PC has brought back what is intrinsically the same platform game - but with a few notable differences. Back in 1986, on my old Amiga's 'Taxan' branded 11 inch monitor at 640 by 512 screen resolution the graphics were superb - and the sound from the inbuilt mono speaker quite acceptable. Now ported to the Windows platform, the images seem grainy and ineffectual, and the sound somewhat out of place on my modern system -- progress? ... :{ .

The main change to the program is the inclusion of a 'fast forward' button [>>] which if used will make the entire lemmings progress increase to an impossibly high pace - great if you have set the lemmings path up to succeed and don't wish to sit through a few minutes of meandering whilst they complete that level's journey. There is the same full gamut of obstacles to overcome [water, acid, sheer drops, sheer cliff faces & impenetrable walls, and a few mantraps (or Lemming-traps)] just to spice up the game play.

Lemmings can be VERY addictive but also rewarding... forcing you to tackle difficult situations in an almost MacGuyveristic manner (if there's such a word). 'OH No!' I almost forgot to mention the cries of horror when all are nuked, and the almost inanely catchy tunes that play (although you can choose to disable the sound - if you must!! Heh Heh.

Most definitely worth the download even just to enjoy the ability to 'nuke' the little green-headed troupe when things are beyond saving.

Joskus vuonna miekka ja kypärä törmäsin tähän peliklassikkoon. Muistan vielä ensimmäisen pelikertani melkoisen hyvin, aloin pelaamaan ja pienen totuttelun jälkeen osasin pelata peliä melkoisen hyvin ja olinkin täysin koukussa.'Yksi taso vielä' kuvaakin peliä melkoisen hyvin.
Pelin tarkoituksena on auttaa sopulilaumaa pääsemään kotiinsa. Tässä tehtävässä käytetään sopuleita eri rooleissa kuten esim. jos edessä on kuilu, niin sitten laitetaan yksi rakentamaan silta eteen, tai jos tasolla on jättimäinen pudotus, niin laitetaan jokaiselle sateenvarjo laskuvarjoksi. Tasoja on lähes loputtomasti äärimmäisen helposta, lähes mahdottomaan (heikkohermoiset varokaa!)

Grafiikat 7/10
Peli on nykymittakaavalla hirveän näköinen, mutta eipä ne kauan sitten paljoa hienommat olleet; eikä tarvitsekkaan. Kaikki saavat selvää näistä tasoista ja hahmoista ja hienot grafiikkakikat vain vaikeuttaisivat ja sekottaisivat peliä (kuten voi nähdä Lemmings 3D:ssä).

Pelattavuus 9/10
Liikutat itse hiirtä ja laitat tehtäviä eri lemmingeille, välillä on hieman hankala ajoittaa hiiren painalluksia mutta se ei ole hirveä ongelma.

Äänet 5/10
Pelissä ei ole ääniä ajoittain kuuluvia räjähdyksiä lukuunottamatta lähes lainkaan, eivätkä ne ole mitään hienoja

Loppuen lopuksi peli on yksi kaikkien aikojen Pc-pelien merkkipaaluista, eikä syyttä sillä peli laittaa unirytmin sekaisin ja hermot riekaleiksi. Jokaisen itseäänkunnioittavan Pc-pelaajan pitäisi kokea tämä mestariteos.

The original Lemmings shines as one of the greatest of its type. While the primitive DOS based graphics were comical even when they were new the ambiance more than made up for them. Lemmings is at its heart a cute rendition of the mind-game (a cuteness which shines through the very low-res graphics). Instead of words, shapes, colors, or combinations Lemmings sport funny little short people with Green hair, and blue garments.

As the mastermind behind these incredibly stupid creatures (who naturally can do no more than walk straight forward, or reverse direction in the face of an obstacle) it is up to you to lead them across obstacles to 'home.' At your disposal are various powers. The number of times you can use any of these powers individually is level specific, some of them being completely unavailable at times. With these powers you can setup road blocks, dig in various directions, supply parachutes for long falls, and other such usefull activities.

Your score in the game is determined through the percent Lemmings saved per level, as compared to the expected or minimum number set by the games' designers. This version of Lemmings differns in no particular way from the original, save one nice feature: it is Windows based. I recently tested it on a WinXP machine, and it ran flawlessly, music and all. If you enjoy puzzles, think that pixelated graphics are cute, and have plenty of spare time I suggest giving this game a try.

'Hello. My name is Blocker, and I need your help. You see, my friends and I are trying to get home but we can't do it ourselves. Don't tell them I told you this, but those other guys are like sheep. They just follow each other around and don't do anything unless they're told to. They'll even walk off a cliff into molten lava if they're not given directions. Please help us. There are eight different things that we can do; it's just that we don't know when to do what. Can you try and guide us from this trapdoor looking thing to our cosy home? I won't mind if you can't save all of us; a majority will do. Just tell us when to build or ramps or climb walls to get over objects or gaps, when to use our umbrellas to float from high places, when to bash or mine our way through wall or dig through floors. I'll block those other guys if they're going in the wrong direction, and you can even blow some of them up to get through things. Whatever you do, don't nuke us. If you do, we'll all blow up within 5 seconds. And that'll make a hell of a mess!'

Lemmings is one of the all-time great strategy games. When it was release in about 1992, millions of people were hooked. It was such a popular game that two level packs (with a total of 164 extra levels) were released JUST for the original version. Plus it inspired a sequel!

The idea is to get your mindless little Lemmings from the hatch to their home, by utilising the special abilities allowed for that level such as digging, blocking and floating. Once you get the minimum number of Lemmings home, you'll be given a password and move up to the next level. Because every level is completely different and offers its own challenges, Lemmings is a game that retains its playability for a very long time.

The graphics aren't super, but they suit the style of game well. Same goes for the sound; basic marching style music interspersed with the occasional (or frequent?) sound of exploding lemmings.

If you haven't played Lemmings, you're either still in primary school, or you're not a gamer!

Spelet går ut på att du i olika banor ska hjälpa dina lemmlar att ta sig från ett ställe till ett annat. Lemmlarna kan dö och det är därför av stor ikt att du försöker rädda så många som möjligt. Vanligtvis måste du rädda 50% till 75% av lemmlarna. Du kan beordra dem till att gräva. Bygga trappor eller till och med att spränga sig själva. Lemmings är ett sådant spel som enligt mig betecknas som beroendeframkallande. Den hela tiden glada låten som spelas i bakgrunden gör bara saken bättre och bättre. Banorna skiljer sig mycket starkt från varandra. En del är så enkla att ett par knapptryckningar räcker för att samtliga lemmlar ska klara sig. Andra banor (fyllda med rykande het lava, kvicksand, elektriska fällor, stora raviner eller maskiner som enbart är konstruerade till det syfte att ta kål på dina lemmlar) är desto svårare. Lemmings är lätt att lära sig på kort tid. Det är ett av mina stora favoritspel. Lemmings är helt klart värt att ladda hem.

Não existe nenhum jogo mais inovador e cativante quanto esse, a iodéia básica consiste em você salvar o maior numero de lemingues que conseguir, eles saem de um portal e vão andando até o final da tela, se ela acabar em um penhasco ele cai e morre, se acabar em parede ele bate e volta, indo até o final da tela do outro lado.
para ajudar sua árdua missão existem tipos especiais de lemingue que o ajuda a deireciona-los para a saída. Bloqueadores, escavadores, paraquedistas, aderentes a paredes (no melhor estilo 'homem-aranha') e outros conforme a fase.
Algumas fases são bastante simples, outras vão exigir um raciocínio mais amplo, outras mais habilidade e velocidade. tudo isso faz de Lemmings um dos melhores jogos existentes. se você pretende ter diversão esse é seu jogo.

Van egyáltalán olyan ember a Földön, aki nem ismeri még a Lemmingeket? Talán a fiatalok... Nekik úgyis nehéz lenne az eredetivel játszani, mivel ugye csak DOS-ból megy a játék (windows alatt nem látszanak az ikonok, meg a hangkártyát is külön be kell lõni...). De ez a verzió tökéletesen mûködik még WinXP alatt is! A felbontása is jobb lett mint az eredetinek, a hangja is, simáb a scroll, tehát jól fel van javítva. Aki nem ismerné a játékmenetet, annak elõre csak annyit, hogy egy adott pályán (ha jól emlékszem 4x30) x számú lemmingbõl y számút haza kell jutattni az akadályokon keresztül. Ez úgy érhetõ el, hogy különbözõ képességek vannak ikonok formájában feltünteve a játéktér alján, valamelyiket kiválasztva, majd egy bóklászó lemmingre kattintva, az adott egyén azt fogja csinálni amire utasítottuk. Az eleje még 1szerû, de a végefelé már bele lehet õrülni...

en mi opinion, lemmings 95 es basicamente dos cosas:
1)un recopilatorio de niveles de tres de las muchas entregas del archiconocido lemmings, teniendo asi un 'todo en uno' en lo que a niveles se refiere.
2)una reedicion para windows 95 (y posteriores) de lo que fue en su momento el lemmings original.quizas en ese momento este aspecto no fuera muy significativo,pero ahora,nos da la seguridad de poder usarlo sin problemas de compatibilidad.
el objetivo a lograr es el clasico de lemmings y el mismo en cada nivel:
guiar cierto numero de lemmings hasta la salida del nivel, ayudandonos con las habilidades que se nos otorgan como excavar,escalar,construir unas escaleras...
lo unico q hay q hacer es elegir la habilidad y luego un lemming para q la use.siempre con un numero limitado de veces que los podremos usar.
los graficos cambiaron para bien:ahora son nitidos y no pixelados como los de antes,en cuanto al sonido...cada nivel tiene su melodia,pero no hay efectos de
sonido....
en fin un muy buen juego para descubrir o redescubrir esta saga maravillosa.
