VBRUN300.DLL is the visual basic 3.0 run-time file required by many windows programs. You can download it from the Microsoft website here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...09-9419911E74CD This file needs to be in your windows system directory eg. C:\Window\System I hope this works for you. Good luck |

I'm generally speaking not a big fan of Roguelike games, but I decided to try this one and am having some trouble. I DL the game, unpack it, and then try and run the install file and it locks up. Has anyone else had any trouble with this?
If not, perhaps something is corrupted in this version of the file, anyone know another Abandonware site where I can find it? >>>----Therumancer---> |

First I shouldn't reply your post because you did not mention "PC" in the title... Also because I'm sure you did not perform a search to catch a similar thread (there are tons)
This is sounding like an EXE misuse. I don't think you need to run the INSTALL.EXE to install the game. You only have to unpack it within a folder named using the SHORT NAME format (8 chars)... Then you'd better try and find another EXE file (commonly SETUP.EXE to setup audio, video, controllers, etc) Try also to directly launch the game or an alternate game's EXE (unlocker stuff). (I'm sorry, not enough diskspace to catch and test this game) Read you soon

Just like Manimal said, there is no Install.exe in Mordor, it's called Setup.exe. Run it, it installs the game, and it worked immediately.

Just to be clear, I'm refering to to the game "Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol" on the PC. It seems possible there are different "mordor" games.
okay! My problem sounds akin to the original poster's problem. I run the install program "setup.exe", and a little window pops up that says "Initializing Mordor 1.1 Setup..." I can wait all I want, and this never changes. It just sits there and soaks up electricity. If I put another window ontop of that message box, and then look at that message box it will now "`:l |

I`ve also just downloaded this to give it a try. It sounds great from the reviews.
BUT, I am also having trouble installing. I attempt to run "setup.exe" and get an error messge "could not open file [path]\setupkit.dl_" The "path" text, interestingly, is "scambled". Thinking that the file is corrupted (as mentioned in previous posts), I`ve just downloaded it again....same problem
Any help greatly appreciated. |

I, too, am having the exact same problem as what ScrabbledUga above has mentioned.
I run ‘Setup.exe’ and it just freezes, never changing, never doing anything. I am running Win98SE, running on PentIII 440 w/ 128MB of Ram. I have actually downloaded the game from 3 different sources, all with the same results. They all have almost exactly the same files as well (some are more updated or something of the ilk). I don’t get anything saying that I’m missing a file or anything…it just freezes completely. There is no ‘Install.exe’, only ‘Setup.exe’. I have even compiled all the different versions I have into one file since each has something different in it and used the more updated version of each file…also to no avail. I would also like to point out that the version of Mordor that came from Oldgames.nu comes with two ‘MSInfo Documents’. One is named ‘Parallax.nfo’ and the other is ‘Tyranny.nfo’. I personally have no idea what MSInfo Documents do but I imagine they might be sort of there to introduce you to other games. However, clicking on these files returns a notice that both are corrupted and thus cannot be opened. I’d say this might be a problem…except that the other two versions do not have these files. I should also mention that I have Mordor Demo Version 1.066 on a CD that I acquired years ago but only just recently found. It is put out by ‘Magicom Multimedia’ and it is a demo CD of 12 different games built for Win95 & Win3.1/DOS, but I know of no reason it wouldn’t work with Win98. When I try and run the installation from the menu it pops up I get the following problems: The first is that I get a prompt stating that one or more Visual Basic Applications are running and need to be shutdown. This may be one of the problems occurring. So I have shutdown all active programs working on my computer with the exception of Systray and Explorer as well as the working Setup program. However, I still get another error message that looks like the following. “Error – File not found: ?¿ÁÀ|8a8aThis file is required by Setup”. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it is asking for. So when click ‘OK’ to acknowledge that said unknown file isn’t there, the small Setup screen shuts down as well. I have no idea what to do at this point. I have searched throughout the entire Forum Listings but I can’t find anything on this particular issue and this particular game…or simply this particular issue. It's very possible I may have missed something since there are alot of threads, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t see anything to help. Any help anybody can provide would be absolutely wonderful. Thanks, CD. |

Those MSinfo Docs contain information about the people who released that version as abandon ware. Seems like some sort of weird club/company. One even has what seems like a really brief newsletter. I viewed both of these files with winrar in the hopes it would explain how to get the game working. Oh well.
It's kinda amusing that this game can be on the top 20, but doesn't work. Maybe it's our computers? |

I honestly think it very well may be something to do with out computers...I just wish I knew what it was ya know? If it said I was missing files I could acquire those...but it doesn't tell me anything. And I'm not skilled enough to where I can figure it out. Wish I could do that to. But, I dunno. There doesn't seem to many other people with this problem. But there has to be something special (er, well, not so special) about our computers that just doesn't sit well with Mordor. What really sucks about this whole thing for me is that I use to play Mordor like 7 years or so ago non-stop. All the time. Then we changed computers or moved or something and I lost the game. I've been looking for it ever since...and I've finally figured out it's full name and got skilled enough to be able to find it... Only now, I can't load it!! or play it! Oye! It's terrible. I might just start looking for another game like this, opened in a window instead of full screen and a really fun long game to play.

Hi all
Either the SETUP doesn't need to be run ... Usually the game archives are containing an "image" of the ALREADY INSTALLED game ! So all you need should be : run WinZip or WinRAR and unpack the game archive by selecting the USE FOLDER OPTION... Or the Drag'n'Drop method is not too bad since you are respecting the original (installed) game folder structure... I've also get some re-packed archives ! That is : a ZIP file containing a few RAR files containing themseves another ZIP file   I know, this is very snaky way to make archive that includes some ... archives.
In this case proceed in a few steps... - RARs in a single ZIP : unZip all the RARs within the TEMP folder, then run WinRAR or unarj and remember all I've said... - ZIP in RARs in a single ZIP : unZip all the RARs within the TEMP folder, then run WinRAR or unarj for each archive unless there having the A01...A0n extensions. then run WinZip and remember all I've said... Because I'm aware this could sound foggy/complicated/tough mainly to newbies, you should read the top threads of this Tech Help Forum where LEX have already droppped many explainations about the archives... Read you soon

Well... it turns out that apparently setup doesn't need to be run, and it is a case of archives within archives. But it is STILL really messed up.
Okay, the archives are in a format that I've never seen before called ".wip". Which stands for something like "windows installation program." There are two of these "wips", and after un"wip"ing them, it seems like one has the full game. But then it starts having trouble with the files included. Threed.vbx must be deleted, and then it starts requesting files left and right that seem like they must be taken from the internet. And now I'm just getting plain "error at MORDOR.exe"s! Is there any hope left? |

Well, I read Manimals post...and tried to go through the steps... er, well, tried to figure out How to go through the steps. But i'm just not that good. So I looked around some. I found a website called 'Slimey's Mordor Guide and Forums'. Which, as you can imagine, is solely devoted to Mordor. On his site he has downloads for Mordor in both 'installation required' and 'no installation required'. He also gives you a download of all the .Dll's and other things you need. So i downloaded the 'Non-installation' one and Blam!! Worked like a charm! Couldn't have Winamp playing though. So gonna have to get a radio or something when I play. But it worked. No problems with anything. Sure, it may be cheating to get an easy download then to deal with this. but hey, i was desperate.
Anyway, the link is as follows:
http://www.sjw.id.au/mordor/mordor.html You'll want to follow the menu on the left down to the bottom where the 'Download' choice is. That's where to go. Hope it helps! CD. |

I finally did manage to unpack Mordor correctly, however, on running the game, it still says some files are missing. I believe they are visual basic files or something.
anyway, I opted to go the way xenosgreybeards way and used the link he priovided. Big thanks for that link. |

I've finally downloaded "Mordor-The Depths of Dejenol".
I've explored the ZIP file and it looked clean. I've installed then the game and anything has run fine... Then I've launched the game and did not experienced any troubles... (I've had sound) This games has run under Win 98, it has been created under a Win 3.1 or Win 95 environment...
Mordor requires the following to run: Microsoft Windows 3.x, Workgroups for Windows 3.x, Windows NT, Windows 95 or 100% Compatible Windows Operating System 386/33 or greater processor 4 MB RAM Available to Windows 5 MB of Disk Space 640x480x256 color VGA resolution Mordor recommends the following to run: Microsoft Windows Operating System 486/33 or greater processor 8 MB RAM Available to Windows with Caching 6.5 MB of Disk Space Sound card capable of playing MIDI and WAVE files 800x600x256 color SVGA resolution Performances: Because of the size and playing style of Mordor, game performance may be improved by closing any other applications that may be running in the background. Display Settings: Mordor was also written to be played with either Small Fonts System Resource Sizes in 800x600 resolution or Small or Large fonts System Resource Sizes in 1024x768 resolution. It is not recommended that one play Mordor in 800x600 with Large Fonts. Mordor is also a 256 color application that can run in 16 colors if necessary, but the graphic quality will be lacking. Ensure yourself that your graphic board must be VESA compatible ! So for those buddies who are getting troubles running it under Win XP/2000 I suggest you to EDIT the game shortcut and go to the COMPATIBILITY TAB to change it for WIn 95 and UNCHECK the resolution box since this game requires 800*600 in 16 bits. Also you may need some DLLs so please browse the web and /or have a look at WinFiles (click here) to get some missing files... Read you soon

Mordor runs fine for me on Win XP and I had no problem whit it...
don't know if this one is abondonware but you should try a game named Infinite Worlds (a.k.a. Demise: Rise of The Ku'Tan a.k.a. Mordor II: Darkness Awakening)... but you can get the demo at http://www.gamesdomain.com/demos/demo/12.html or http://www.3dgamers.com/games/infiniteworlds/

If you're having trouble installing Mordor from the setup.exe, then you can use the following link: http://sjw.id.au/mordor/mordor.html
Click on downloads and then choose the no installer version. |

I've been having the same trouble as others in this thread. I run Setup.exe, and I get the message 'Initializing Mordor 1.1 Setup', but it just freezes there.
I tried that link but the file isn't there anymore. Sigh. I loved this game when I was a kid, and ever since I rediscovered it I've been desperate to play it again... |
