My Game runs too fast/slow

There are several errors associated with games running too fast usually runtime errors, such as runtime error 200. There are also quite handily several programs available for you to slow your machine down temporarily. I will list some of the applications. The following are descriptions of the slowdown utilities as provided by their creators. Any notes following are notes that I have written in order to aid you in deciding which ones to download.
Also listed in there are some applications which can stop games from running too slow. This can often happen on newer machines.

AT-Slow
AT-SLOW is a utility which when loaded will use the high resolution timer found in a PC-AT or close clone, to slowdown games and other programs which run to fast on PC-AT's.

Note: The version we provide is only a demo and will only work for 5 minutes!
Instruction: See manual provided with download!

Bremze
BREMZE (Latvian for 'brake') slows down PC performance by controlling the speed of execution of programs. This feature can be useful when running old processor dependent programs on new PCs, particularly to decrease the speed of games for 'better results', or when wishing to gain a better understanding of the sequences and functioning of programs, etc.

Note: For Windows programs it must be started BEFORE windows therefore it is not as easy to use as some others although it works fine in DOS.
Instruction: See bremze.txt Manual or for quick reference see read.me file.

CPUKiller
It is very simple CPUKILLER takes the control of your processor and makes the resource occupancy grow enough to slow down the execution of other applications. When you want your computer to return at the normal speed you have only to stop CPUKILLER!

Note: All self-explanatory and very easy to use but can ONLY be used within Windows therefore if you plan to/have to Shut down and restart in MS-DOS mode for games this is not the program for you! This is a 30 day Evaluation version
Instruction: No manual just install the program then launch the program. Use the help file within the program if you have problems.

Mo’Slo
Mo’Slo lets you to slow the speed of your computer to 1-99% of normal in 1% increments. To use it, you supply the name of the program you want to run slow as a command line argument. Slowness is adjusted with a command line switch. If the switch is not supplied, Mo’Slo slows your computer to approximate a 4.77MHz PC/XT.

Note: Use in DOS is very easy as you already have the command line. Within Windows you will need to either start a DOS prompt and go from there or create a batch file.
Instruction: Moslo132.txt contains information on how to use Mo’Slo.

PitSet
A 'fix' for Slow DOS game performance and/or music. Some games will run slower under Windows 9x/NT/2k than they do in DOS. This is caused by the way Windows emulates the timer interrupt.

Instruction: There really is nothing to it. Just click 'n run.

SlowMo
SlowMo provides slow motion which can be turned on and off DURING a game. SlowMo features variable speed slow motion, which can be adjusted whilst the game or other program is running. A Pause facility gives you time for a breather. Freeze allows you to freeze the action and leave the computer, e.g. to answer the 'phone or get a drink. All facilities are available on a single keypress. You can assign the keys used. Special settings for each game can be saved and reloaded automatically.

Note: Very useful for certain games where you just want to slowdown one part of the game and not the whole game. This program is a TSR therefore it will take up memory when you have finished using it. For games that require high amounts of memory this program is NOT recommended as it takes up a fair bit of memory itself.
Instruction: See slowmo.txt manual, which comes with the archive.

Speedset
This one is pretty unique. A lot of people find that their old games may run too slow, even on their nice speedy machine. Well, this one not only slows games down but can also speed them up. You can easily load it from VDMSound Autoexec.VDMS or in a batch file.

Note: Very easy to use. Can be used in Windows or Pure DOS.
Instruction: See readme.txt in the archive.
Download: Here

Turbo
Software "Turbo Switch". Set the effective CPU speed 1-100% of full speed. All programs now run at this reduced speed.

Note: This is a windows based program therefore you cannot use it if you wish to/have to shut down and restart in MS-DOS mode for your game.
Instruction: Just run it and set the speed. Simplicity at it’s simplest.
Download: Here

If you have any further problems or queries running these applications feel free to contact me. Please note though that I will NOT give you registration information or cracks for any of these programs. If you like the programs that much then go and buy them!

Lex’s Recommendations:
Turbo and Mo’Slo would be my recommendations. Turbo for programs that you can run from within windows because it is simple and it works. Mo’Slo for when the time comes that you have to shut down and play a game in DOS mode. Of course, I can’t not recommend Speedset and PitSet as they appear to be the only ones which can help you to get games running slightly faster.
